Phishing: Bogus Text message! (5/9/2012)

A bogus text message purportedly from Connex Credit Union or a “Credit Union Call Center” advises them that their “card” has been deactivated and to call a provided telephone number.  DO NOT CALL.

This text message is being sent from 1-231-327-9565 and reads wording similar to:

THE CREDIT UNION CENTER ALERT:

Your card starting with 4013 has been DEACTIVATED.

Please call us at 203-779-8257.

It may also read: CONNEX CREDIT UNION ALERT.

DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER. A recording simply asks you to enter a credit or debit card number. This is only an attempt to garner active credit or debit card numbers.

Connex Credit Union is aware of this phishing scam and has nothing to do with it. This scam is NOT the result of any data breach with this or any other credit union. The origin of the text message may be in Guilford, Conn.

simply delete the message and be more aware of similar attempts to gain confidential information for fraudulent purposes.
